User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7 Clicking on the image that is used as an form input element highlights the image in blue or grey. http://dev.stg.brown.edu/projects/tf/ (The highlight does NOT occur if the user clicks somewhere within the topmost 30 pixels of the image, or in the leftmost 30 pixels of the image.) After the completion of the click, the image does not return to its former 'deselected' state, and the coloring of the highlight obscures the image. This occurs on PC and Mac; I was unable to test Linux today. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. view http://dev.stg.brown.edu/projects/tf/ 2. click anywhere on the image more than 30 px from the top border of the image and more than 30 px from the left border of the image 3. look at the lovely blue color that persists Actual Results: The image stayed highlighted, which meant that I couldn't see the image clearly anymore. And I became oh-so-sad when I learned that IE (PC/Mac), iCab (Mac), Camino(Mac), Safari(Mac), and Opera (PC/Mac) don't reproduce this behaviour. Expected Results: Deselect the image onmouseup, so the original coloring returns.
You checked all those and didn't check mozilla? This belongs under browser, not firebird. Setting severity: minor You can just click somewhere else in the screen to deselect the image. Important info: this is to do with an image that submits with target="other_frame" because most images will soon be dissapearing when they are clicked as the submit. I can see this on Linux.

With http://dev.stg.brown.edu/projects/tf/ I cannot reproduce the bug with Firefox. However, with the testcase from the attachment, the bug is there, no matter where I click on the image. Also a lot of other websites are affected, such as my webmail and many sites with search engines with an image as submit button. I am using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040328 Firefox/0.8.0+

I also see the issue mentioned in Comment #3 since I upgraded to Mozilla 1.7b (Build 2004031616). Clicking anywhere on the "Login" button at https://www.schwabplan.com/login/login.asp?wci=participantLogin highlights the button in purple instead of just showing a focus outline around it. If you go to Yahoo! Driving Directions (http://maps.yahoo.com/dd), map any two addresses, and click somewhere on the map, the whole thing turns purple. The problem went away when I went back to Mozilla 1.6 and appeared again when I reinstalled 1.7b. I'm using an ATI Radeon 8500 on Windows 98 SE.

This latest issue sounds like a different bug than the one originally reported, since it happens on the entire image (not just beyond 30 pixels) and just showed up on 1.7b. I'd think this is more than "minor". I probably won't go to 1.7 final if this is not fixed.
if this is indeed a different issue then file a new bug with the keyword regression. If it's the same then add regression keyword to this bug.

(W98SE) Confirming comment 3, with Mv1.7rc2: Testcase behaviour seems to be bug 240903 ! URL behaviour seems to have been fixed since initial report(s) ? Herri, Bob, can you check this bug (URL) with recent FireFox(/Mozilla) builds ? Unless someone can reproduce the bug, it will be Resolved (Fixed) in 7 days.

This is not reproducible with current builds. Looks like the fix for bug 240903 fixed this too.
