I'd like to be able to use the system bell in place of / as well as playing a
sound when an alarm sounds. In an office environment I have my audio out
permanently connected to headphones, so won't get an audible alert if I'm not
listening to headphones. On this system the system bell remains audible in these
circumstances.

Setting calendar.alarms.soundURL to an empty value calls nsISound's beep(). I'm not sure if this is actually the system beep, because I cannot get my mac to beep at all (i.e in the terminal with echo -e "\a")

Could someone not on mac try this in the error console?

Components.classes["@mozilla.org/sound;1"].createInstance(Components.interfaces.nsISound).beep();
On Windows this works, on Ubuntu not. Ubuntu is in a VM but other sounds are working.
Severity: normal → S3
