After getting a new mail notification the icon in system tray and the green
arrow icon of the folder disappear when I click in a different folder (e.g.
sent folder) in the folder pane of this particular account even if I did not
choose to download the mail. After the next periodic check the new mail
notification appears.
Clicking in a folder of another account does not delete the notification icons.

notification reappears on the next periodic check.

At any rate, I couldn't find a dupe for this.

Well, it prevents you from changing your mind and download the messages before the periodic check timer turned again. Or so I understood the original message.
