User-Agent: lynx 5.5 (vision impaired version) Build Identifier: I have multiple folders that are associated with different lists/memberships/companies, etc. I use different email addresses for each of the folders (cuts down on spam, makes maillist leakages trackable...like my adobe specific email address is now on various junk email lists, but I've only used it for adobe product registration. Tells ya something about adobe security and their reporting procedures. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. go into folder. compose message 2. 3. Actual Results: default email account is put into from address Expected Results: the address associated with the folder...say folder "adobe-announce" would put 'adobe-email@mydomain' in any replies to emails in that folder or if I am view that folder and click compose. Ideally, I could just select the email I wanted and not have to create a bogus account for each email address as I do now. technically it this is an RFE -- but it's also a minor loss of functionality -- the ablity to reply to an email address using the email address the email was addressed to isn't easy or str8forward. There is a workaround -- create a special account for each folder and remember to select the correct from address each time -- or use Kmail from the KDE package which has this feature (an even less easy workaround on win32...:-))....
I just found this note. I would like to have the exact same feature for the exact same reasons. I use Pine (email app) roles at work but Pine is **** on a PC and doesn't seem to work well when sharing T-birds message folders. -Noel
You know, there is a very perverse work-around, I think *might* work now, but is unverified. I'm told some people are getting KDE to work under the Cygwin environment. Given the speed of Unix environments emulated on windows (Cygwin' is actually faster than MS's own "Unix Services 3.0 for Windows"), it might be like running on a processor of about 30-40% the speed of running KDE native on linux, but it might work. Even T-bird is dissapointing in memory usage. I wondered why things were paging heavily when I have 512M physmem, Windows favors file buffers over user programs -- even if you set the flag to the memory manager to favor user progs over file buffer space...I think the flag maybe makes windows faver file buffers less than normal, but I think it favors file buffers no matter what you say on that page. But anyway -- Tbird was open, no windows open except the main window open on my 1 IMAP account. 44Meg memory used in *private* space (didn't see how much shared memory it used). That's alot of private space for displaying 1 message...
Check out: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=300933#300933 Seems like this feature already exists but no UI. I tried to open the bugs referenced but couldn't. Maybe I'm lame and don't know how to use the search interface. -Noel

> I have multiple folders that are associated with different > lists/memberships/companies, etc. I use different email addresses for each of > the folders (cuts down on spam, makes maillist leakages trackable... [snip] I would love this feature too, with further suggestions: - ability to look at the "received-for" part of the header, and default to that sending address when replying to an email - ability to override any outbound email's From address on the fly (for those emails you have not configured a folder for)
The UI for creating multiple identities has been in place for a while. In addition, there is some intelligence in place when replying to a message that's been sent to a particular identity. I think it's not so useful when dealing with mailing lists, however. Related to this: bug 64267, bug 228980, bug 256314, bug 264626. This bug, as an RFE, is still valid for composing new messages while viewing the folder.
Severity: minor → enhancement
OS: Windows XP → All
Hardware: PC → All
Summary: need ability to associate different 'from' email addresses with different folders → associate an identity with folder (start composition while viewing folder)
Version: unspecified → Trunk
(In reply to comment #6) > This bug, as an RFE, is still valid for composing new messages while viewing > the folder. And not surprisingly, that feature is already covered by an older bug. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 200872 ***
