User-Agent: Opera/7.11 (Windows NT 5.0; U) [en] Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7 If Thunderbird is U&R Firebird will not start up. Screen opens briefly, just a flash. I don't see any messages. I have removed and reinstalled both products several times. Big PITA and no joy! I deleted everything in the system that that appeared to have any connection to either package. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Thunderbird 2. Start Firebird 3. Firebird fails Actual Results: Firebird fails to start. Expected Results: Started
weird! I have not experienced anything like this. I assume that firebird works when thunderbird is installed but not running? Did this start happening with recent builds? Or have you only just installed thunderbird?

This has been happening since I first downloaded these two programs back around the first of October, 2003. BTW, it works both ways. First one started works, the second one won't start up.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7a) Gecko/20040128 Firebird/0.8.0+ Its been a while since anyone has commented here. This bug certainly sounds weird. Dennis: Can you try new builds of both Firebird and Thunderbird to see if this has been fixed since your last comment and then report back? Make sure you install them into separate and empty directories. There is a companion bug report to this one by the same reporter. Bug 226780 was filed and is basically the exact same except it says that Thunderbird will not start if Firebird is running (the opposite of this bug).
I have not ever had a problem running Thunderbird and Firebird at the same time

I can confirm this on OS/2 using the GCC compiled binaries available from the Mozilla.org contributed builds site. If I have ThunderBird 0.4 open and try to start Firefox 0.8, Firefox hangs without displaying anything. CPU usage goes to 100% and stays there. Ctrl-Clicking on the Window widget in WarpCenter (used to list and kill processes in OS/2) shows an entry "Firefox (title)" which can be killed. If I have Firefox open and try to start Thunderbird, I get: SYS3175 A program generated an access violation at 1e4b1382 LIBC04.DLL 0001:00001382. Happens regardless of whether I have separate copies of the two DLLs in each application's own directory, or single copies located on OS/2's LIBPATH. Both are using recently downloaded builds unzipped into separate folders \Thunderbird and \Firefox). Did not experience the same problem using Phoenix 0.3 and Thunderbird 0.3.
Greetings; I got the "latest" versions of T-bird and F-bird and installed them and the problem has disappeared. I installed a couple different versions of each before though, and the problem was still there.
Using - FireFox (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040307 Firefox/0.8.0+) - Thunderbird (Mozilla Thunderbird 0.5+ (20040305)) No problem at all. Marking this as WFM
