This also happens when Language in the Navigator preference group is clicked. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. edit -> preferences 2. open Appearance 3. click on Theme 4. repeat for Language under Navigator Actual Results: beep Expected Results: not beeped I also hear beeps when I load the program up at the beginning of a session.
Wow, I just rebuilded the lizard from source (v 1.5) and now it beeps on most any mouse click!!! The reporter observatuions confirmed, it beeps when you change some folders in Mail, twice when you start a new mail and so on. It is annoying!! For now I am gonna unplug my PC speaker I guess :-(

Robert, have you installed any extensions? Was your install into a clean directory?
No answer. Please (only) reopen if you can reproduce this with a clean install of Mozilla 1.7b or a current nightly and a new profile.
