22733 - window position collides with taskbar at top of screen

Under win9x and winnt, I have my taskbar on top like the Mac.

If I start Mozilla or open a new window of Mozilla, the window will
be at the top with part of the window under the taskbar.

Can it be changed such that it will open a new window or start off with a
slight offset from the task bar and/or in maximise mode

This may have to do with bugs in screen.availTop and screen.availLeft (I think I
 saw one floating around recently).

It should remember the position of the last window, so it's not like this will happen
more than once (does it?) Wants fixing, but not real soon...

Resizing the Windows Taskbar without moving it from the top (grab its border
and drag to add or remove a line of taskbar) is also enough to get Mozilla
to position itself in accordance with the placement of the taskbar. So it is
only on the initial load that Mozilla is not getting the message about where
the Windows taskbar is. To put it another way, Mozilla seems to respond 
properly to messages about the taskbar placement, but does not ask if not told.

This does indeed look like a DUP of bug 11756, "Browser window partially hidden 
by Taskbar in Win95", ASSIGNED, helpwanted. 

danm, you may want to law about which one of you really wants this.

I am running into the same problem with my left side docked task bar.  And no
Mozilla doesn't seem to remember after the first time.  Has anyone determined if
this is a DUP yet?

*spam* changing qa contact from [e-mail] to me ([e-mail]) 
on 121 open or resolved (but not verified) bugs.  sorry for the spam everybody, 
but most of these bugs would just remain dormant and not checked by QA 
otherwise.  I'm not sure how so many bugs have nobody as their QA contact, but 
I suspect this is the fault of some sort of bugzilla corruption that happened 
at some point (most of these bugs are in the 20000-26000 range, and I don't see 
where in the activity log that QA contact explicitly changed to 
[e-mail])

Anyways, sorry again for spam.  If you really get annoyed, I'm usually 
available in #mozilla on IRC for torture.

I have to agree with Asa and Sean that this is a dupe of 11756, 'Browser window
partially hidden by Taskbar in Win95'. Does anyone want to confirm? Blake?
Similar behaviour has started happening on the Mac, with the initial window
appearing underneath the menubar and I'm not sure whether to report it here, in
11756, or in a new bug.

My suitemate uses Windows 98 and keeps her taskbar at the top of the screen, 
with "Always on top" checked.  The first Mozilla window she opened had its 
titlebar under her taskbar.  So either this isn't a dup of bug 11756, or bug 
11756 was marked as "fixed" incorrectly.

Windows hidden under taskbar when opening for the 1st time. Please change the
position of where windows open to the center of the screen. I suspect 1.0 users
might not know of the "Alt+spacebar | m | [arrows]" keyboard shortcut - very bad
first impression.

I was having this same problem as well with the task bar in the normal position.
It would start up once under teh task bar but then seemed to remember it's
position after that until reboot again. However after upgrading to 1.0.1 it now
does not seem to remember it's position at all ever....

I am experiencing the problem as well.  Mozilla 1.0 always correctly positioned
the browser, but 1.1 is always opening partially hidden underneath the taskbar
(left side of screen).

build after 1.0.

I would like to report that when I upgraded from 1.1 to the 1.2 beta (build #
2002101612), the issue has been completely fixed for me.

Oh boy. Old bug. I know of no explicit attempt to fix this. However see bug
162090 which is all about not colliding with taskbars no matter where they lie.

I'm surprised this bug got itself fixed last October (or before). Bug 162029
should have been a duplicate of this bug because it's a subset. However it was
fixed on Nov 12, and its fix was general. I'm thinking this bug should be all
better now.

I just downloaded 11-21-08-trunk, and I can confirm that it is fixed.

[ My comment 18 was spoken a little too soon.  The upgrade only mitigated the 
problem, it didn't resolve it completely (so your comment about it not being 
fixed was correct). ]
