The HTML code, which I will attach, is meant to be used as 
a side menu bar.  A submenu appears when clicking "Menu B",
but the submenu overlaps text below, apparently because they
do not reposition to make room for the new text.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. load attached file navx.html
2. click on "Menu B"
3.

Actual Results:  
submenu text overlaps text below

Expected Results:  
text below should shift down to make room for HTML edit

IE 6 and Opera 7 do not have this problem.

The div that "appears" has a height of 0 set.  This means it does not affect
vertical layout of other divs.

IE has a known bug with the "height" property -- it treats it like min-height.

Opera has introduced the same bug in quirks mode to be "IE-compatible".

We have no plans to introduce this bug.

If I understand what you want correctly, use display instead of visibility, and
remove the height:0.
