User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.6b) Gecko/20031202 Firebird/0.7+ Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.6b) Gecko/20031202 Firebird/0.7+ Whenever I download something on Firebird, I go to the download manager window, and as soon as it finishes, I click the "show" hyperlink on the right side of the window, but it opens up a Firebird window with the folder's contents (looks similar to when your on ftp on firebird) instead of opening up a Finder window pointing to the file, like as Camino and Safari do. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.

Am adding this as blocking bug 234739, in which "Show" is going to be replaced with "Open", and "Open containing folder" is going to be a context menu option. This bug will affect that too.

From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=233855 (RESOLVED DUPLICATE): This could be fixed by adding a File Manager selection dialog to the Download Manager section of Options->Downloads in Firefox which allows the user to select the application used to display the file. Firefox could then call the program with the directory path of the downloaded file and have them display the directory (xffm and Konqueror, for example, allow you to call them on the command-line with a directory path appended, and both will open in that directory).

(In reply to comment #5) > This could be fixed by adding a File Manager selection dialog to the Download > Manager section of Options->Downloads in Firefox which allows the user to > select the application used to display the file. Firefox could then call the > program with the directory path of the downloaded file and have them display > the directory (xffm and Konqueror, for example, allow you to call them on the > command-line with a directory path appended, and both will open in that > directory). As much as this might be essential, I'm pretty sure it would be considered UI bloat. If it happened to be a hidden about:config preference, that might be acceptable. However, the base problem of Show not using the correct application really should be fixed instead of just creating a workaround via a preference.
Summary: Firebird opens new window with computer 'file-list' when clicking 'show' on the download manager → Firefox opens new window with computer 'file-list' when clicking 'show' on the download manager
You have a point - but I would much rather have Firefox open a real file manager on Linux instead of another browser window or another tab. A hidden pref with an extension supplying the UI may be best.

Doesn't Gnome have a "default"/"preferred applications" thing? If the Linux user has Gnome installed, it could use that, but that would only be functional if the user has Gnome installed - so the above approach would probably be best, and so we don't confuse our poor Windows users and add additional "bloat," the file browser selection should only be visible on Linux builds, otherwise we'll be sure to have Windows users screwing up the file manager entry. Theoretically explorer is the only *good* one on windows. Mac should then also default to Finder...

WFM on Linux. Right-click -> Open Containing Folder opens Nautilus, as does clicking on the button next to "All files downloaded to:". Is this still an issue on Mac?
OS: All → Mac OS X
Hardware: All → Macintosh
