User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1) Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird 0.3 (20031013) When I create a mailing list, preview another mailing list (by selecting it in the left pane), then go back and try to edit the one I just created, upon clicking OK to close the editing window, every member is replaced by a dummy member. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a mailing list (I'm not sure if the number of members matters; the lists I tested this bug on had between six and eight members). 2. Click on another mailing list then click back on the one you just created. 3. Double click the list to open it for editing. 4. The members might be partially screwed up in this view, but click OK without editing any of them. Actual Results: Each member is now replaced by a dummy member whose only parameter is an "email address" that is actually only the member's last name. If I reset the members to the proper members and click OK, then the list is fine, and will work just fine as long as I just preview it in the address book and don't actually double click it to edit it. As soon as I double click it to edit it and then click OK, it's screwed up again. And the dummy members are actually new cards in the address book, so then I have to go through and delete them. Expected Results: To leave the mailing list the way it was and not replace everyone with dummy members I just switched to Thunderbird this week for its dynamic junk mail filtering, and I installed the calendar extension into Thunderbird, but I'm pretty sure this bug was happening before I installed the calendar. I'm using the default skin and haven't installed any additional skins or extensions besides the calendar.
I have pretty much the same problem running WinNT/SP6.0a. The lists seem to be less jumbled when I turn off automatic email address capture, but I have the further problem that when I use a list that appears to be OK, I get address errors from the SMTP server. Sorry I can't be more definitive but I have no idea whether some of the people on the list are getting copies of the email or whether the whole address list is getting rejected. Hence, I am afraid of annoying people with repeated testing. BTW thanks for the geat effort.
We recently started using Thunderbird .5 at work. We are having some of these same problems. The trend seems to be that if there is a comma in the name section of the card (i.e. Doe, John), the following steps will cause the original card to be replaced by a card with only the name before the comma: 1. Must have an existing card in a list, with a comma in the name section (to get this, just click on the "from" section of an email from someone who has a comma in their name and add to the address book, then move it into a list) 2. Double-click on the list or right-click and click "properties" 3. Click "ok" 4. Click on a different list and then click back on the list you were using (to refresh it) Everything after the comma will be deleted on the card in the list....however, if you go back to the address book that the list was in, the original card AND the messed up card are both in there. In testing this just now, I pulled some different results where the card was actually deleted out of the list. Here's what I did: 1. Created a new list. 2. Clicked to add a new card. Typed in a test name and put a comma in the display name. 3. After creating the card, clicked on a different list & then came back to the one I created (to refresh it) 4. The card I created was gone, but when I went back into the parent address book, it was in there. To sum it up, from what I can tell, lists do not know how to handle cards with commas in the name section.

I think this bug is the same as #218105.....or at least very similar.
I think this is working in 0.7

(In reply to comment #4) > I think this is working in 0.7 The 1st scenario I wrote in comment #2 seems to be fixed in version .7.3, but the 2nd scenario is still bugged (when creating a new card in a list & putting a comma in the display name). I'm still able to reproduce that.
I am still experiencing the following problem (scenario 2 in comment #2) in version 1.0 (20041206): 1. Create a new list. 2. Click to add a new card. Type in a test name and put a comma in the display name. 3. After creating the card, click on a different list & then came back to the one you created (to refresh it) 4. The card you created is gone, but when you go back into the parent address book, it is in there. Do I need to report this as a different bug or can this bug be re-opened, so someone will look at it? Lists don't seem to handle commas very well.
