Since there are no talkback builds, here is the Dr. Watson info:
Faulting application mozilla.exe, version 1.6.20031.21108, faulting module
msgbase.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00028666.
Seeing this in tb 0.4 on linux, marking os:all.
Severity -> critical (crash).

I get the same behavior with Mozilla 1.6 on Microsoft Windows 2000.
likely same crash as in bug 228212

I can't mark messages as spam in the search results, so I'm not able to
reproduce this crasher.

I can do it in Mozilla (from Debian's 1.6-4 package), but not thunderbird
(thunderbird doesn't display the junk field in the result table).
Compiled a new mozilla from CVS yesterday, the junk mail field in the result
table seems to be gone, so maybe this is worksforme or invalid now.

This also happens for me when _marking_ SPAM. I suggest we update the topic to
include both cases. (Mozilla 1.6 ,Windows 2000) Would be very okay to be able to
mark spam from search as well.

Why that's positively the best way of fixing a bug.
