when the sidebar updates, the app freezes

(SeaMonkey :: UI Design, defect, P1)

(Not tracked)

I've got the "My Stocks" sidebar panel open.
when it refreshes, everything hangs until the refresh is done.
I especially notice this when typing and the refresh happens, and I'm stuck for
3 or 4 seconds!

Steve, is this our bug? Or just layout/network slowness?
I looked for duplicates in the layout and network components, but could not find
anything similar. This does not seem to have anything specific to the sidebar.
You get a pause when any content page loads.

Reassigning to layout.

I'm not convinced this is layout yet.

how do you go about getting the stock info from netcenter?

is it a blocking read?

(note to troy, do NOT mark this invalid if you don't think it's layout.
reassign it to me.)
This is not a layout issue. The loading of that URL in viewer takes a fraction
of a second. If you're seeing 3 or 4 seconds then there's something else that's
slowing it down

do we refresh all the sidebar channels at once, or do we only go get the one you
are looking at?

The sidebar only has one iframe. When a user clicks on a panel header, I set the
iframe's src attribute to load the content. After that, the content is on its
own. The stock panel must be using HTML refresh. I would tell you, but I cannot
even load the page in 4.x right now.
Why do I have this bug?
