I doubt this is a problem with Firebird. Aren't there options in the Control Panel that could change middle-click behaviour?
Upgrading to Intellimouse software version 5.0 causes this problem. The default setting in the Intellimouse software performs the Windows "next window" operation, and is captured by the mouse driver before the click gets to Mozilla. Changing the behavior of the middle button in Intellimouse's control panel to the old default "AutoScroll" restores appropriate behavior.
