User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/106.2 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/100.1 Build Identifier: http://www.mozilla.org/ (downloaded 1.6) Downloaded and installed the Japanese localisation from the Mozilla 1.6(beta) list at [http:// www.mozilla.org/projects/l10n/mlp_status.html#contrib]. installed okay, but when going back in to Preferences:Languages, kept showing (needs update) after the localisation name. Why does it say that if it's the latest one? unable to fiddle with it any more; now Mozilla won't work at all (submitted as another bugreport). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Preferences:Languages 2. Clicked on link to localisation files 3. in the Mozilla 1.6(beta) list, clicked on Japanese. 4. Allowed installation. 5. Went back to Preferences:Languages. Actual Results: Japanese showed as installed, but needing update. Expected Results: That it wouldn't have the (needs update) phrase; and/or a link would be supplied to update or find update. Never did get to find out how or if that localisation works. 8(
If I understand you right, you downloaded Mozilla version 1.6 and the Japanese language pack for Mozilla 1.6 Beta? In this case *you* caused this (needs update) error. The final version of Mozilla has the version number "1.6", but the language pack has "1.6b". You must wait until the Japanese language pack for the final version 1.6 will be ready for downloading. the other possibility would be download the 1.6 Beta build and use the current language pack with this till the language pack for 1.6 will be available.
f I understand Comment #1, this bug should have been marked "wontfix"?
The problem that the dialog of "The update is necessary" comes out does fix in the latest version. Mozilla L10N(Japan) Forum: (Announcement of Japanese) http://moz.skillup.jp/jlp/viewtopic.php?t=328&sid=e04afc51579a27ff527877fab250e3d1#2679 A past version is not supported though whether this problem occurred by a past version is not understood.
