Using jan04 commercial builds on linux 6.0, NT 4.0 and Mac OS 8.5.1 A signature file string which is removed from the signature file field in the account setup dialog will reappear. 1. Go to Account Setup dialog and enable the "attach this signature" option under an account. Fill in the location of a signature file and confirm OK to the account setup dialog. 2. Check the signature file option/location took by checking the account dialog again (because of bug #22989 you must exit and relaunch to see changes in the account setup dialog) or by creating a new message. 3. Go back to the account setup dialog (again, keep in mind #22989) and disable the signature file option and delete the text in the field's edit box. Confirm OK to account setup dialog. Create a new message and it will verify that the signature option is not engaging. 4. Go back to the account setup dialog again and note the signature file text string is still there. In some instances (I'm not sure what extra steps I took) even though the text did not appear, once I enabled the option again and confirmed the same signature file would appear in a new message window. Note: if specifying a different signature file, the string will indeed be overwritten with the newer one. Actual result: deleting the signature file text string and confirming retains the string in the field. Expected result: after deleing the signature file text string and confirming I expect it should not display in the account setup dialog, nor should it engage as the attached signature file for a new message file unless I specify it again.

Target Milestone: M17
since the signature is disabled by turning it off with the checkbox, I'm moving this past b1

Mail Review recommends this bug as beta2 stopper. Adding nsbeta2 keyword.
Keywords: nsbeta2
I don't believe this is a stopper by any means. The user can always uncheck the checkbox, and the checkbox is quite obvious on the screen

got it - wasn't really this too clearly.
