when an email is received and is set by a filter as "read",
the visual notification does not appear (i think this is correct)
but the audio notification does play (maybe this is wanted, but a "preference"
checkbox would be appreciated).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. set a filter to set an incoming mail from you to be read
2. activate all the notifications (audio & visual)
3. send an email to yourself
4. get msgs

Actual Results:  
audio notification occurs
visual one, not.

Expected Results:  
have NOT played any sound (notification)

Bugzilla doesn't have any audio capability.  I assume you mean MailNews?

I think that is not correct.  All notifications trigger for mail marked read.
