The Thunderbird 0.5b build could not launch from the QuickLaunch bar, giving an
error saying that xp_com.dll could not be found- try reinstalling that may fix
the problem... I did, it didn't. Yet, it ran when launch from the Thunderbird
Folder.

Run from QuickLaunch
Have you made sure that you have a shortcut on your quick launch bar and not a
copy of the exe file?

this happens when folks don't follow the installation instructions, installing
on top of older builds
