I guess this is a News-only feature. When reading news, I sometimes would like to be able to kill a thread without having to load any of the messages from it. This action is not available from the context menu of the message. I think a relatively clean shortcut to get to this point would be to shift+click in the Junk column -- indicating a sort of "This thread is junk" (in the sense of ignorable, not in the sense of should be added to the Bayesian training). I can anticipate an argument against: one UI feature is suddenly taking on two different meanings. In its defense, this is a kind of expert-only functionality I'm looking for anyway, and the user action is not one that is likely to be experimented with by a novice user (and so unlikely to confuse).

imho, this is also a valid use case for threads on mailing lists.

I don't think we would do this, nor would we want to overload the meaning of Junk. But this can be effectively done with Ignore thread in the context menu
