I don't know if this is related to my problem, but when running Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113, I get the same problem. Windows 2KPro SP3. P4 512MB. 40GB System. I can be browsing and Mozilla would freeze. I can be typing and Mozilla would freeze for a few seconds. (It froze a bit just now when I was typing "I can be browsing...". Basically I would be(just froze on "would") doing something on Mozilla(mail/news/browse) and Mozilla would freeze (other apps are not affected). I go to the Task Manager and see Mozilla taking up 99% of the CPU resource. I don't think it's a constant time internval. Probably a couple of minutes in between.

I get something similar (cpu usage 85-95%) when either composing or replying in mail/news. SeaMonkey 1.1a, Copyright (c) 2003-2005 mozilla.org <developer build> Showed up in todays CVS (checkout finish: Sun Oct 2 18:54:38 EDT 2005) Closing the compose window does not free the resources, requires complete exit from application. Slackware 10.2, i686 Configure arguments --enable-application=suite --enable-calendar --disable-tests --enable-extensions=default,irc,tasks --without-system-nspr --without-system-jpeg --without-system-zlib --without-system-png --without-system-mng --disable-debug --enable-optimize=-O2 --enable-crypto --enable-default-toolkit=gtk2 --enable-xft --disable-freetype2 --disable-xprint --with-pthreads Does this belong attached here or should I submit a new report?
Using Mac OS 10.3.6, CPU usage will jump to from little to none to 70-90% after a bit less than two hours at least when off line. Not dependent on what windows are open. Condition exists even if both browser and mail client are closed. True with SeaMonkey builds through 2005100710

I am closing this WORKSFORME. If you are able to recreate the problem with a new, current version please reopen and update the bug. I tested with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060404 SeaMonkey/1.0.1 The other comments (Ed, Rinaldi, D Andrian) STM are not related to the reporter. Note, given equal symptoms but different steps or circumnstances to create the failure, you may be better off looking for a better matching bug, and if you don't find one then create a new one with your exact description. Rinaldi, I rather think your mail compose problem is probably fixed. I had experienced something similar in that time period and my problem is gone. D Andrian - a rhetorical question - how do you cause your problem if "Condition exists even if both browser and mail client are closed."? Sounds like a shutdown/close window problem, and there are several bugs to choose from, including ones that involve "offline".
