Details
User-Agent:
Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird 0.5 (20040207)
I have manually added the following filter in the msgFilterRules.dat:
name="NazNet Wesley"
enabled="yes"
type="1"
action="Move to folder"
actionValue="imap://h.deventer@pop.nazarene.nl/NazNet_Wesley"
condition="OR (body,contains,/wesley/)"
This filter works when using Tools, Run Filters on Folder or when using Tools,
Message Filters, select one and click on Run Now.
But it does NOT work automaticly when a new message comes in, while filters
that do NOT use "body" work normally and automaticly.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Send yourself a message with the keyword /wesley/
2. It remains in the inbox
3. Start Tools, Run Filters on FOlders and it moves to the designated folder
immediately
Expected Results:
It should have run right away without me interferring.

I'm seeing something similar. After I added a "custom" header type, "body" is no
longer available in the drop down for filters. I manually edited the filters in
the .DAT file to use body, then opened the filters dialog. Opening the dialog
changes all the "body" rules to something else (whatever is now the top of your
list; for me it is "subject") and saves the new, now broken, filters.
What I am trying to do is catch certain, specific URLs in the body of messages
and junk them since the Spam filter isn't able to distinguish the messages
adequately.

On reading the related bug, I see my problem is that I use an IMAP folder for
ALL my inbound mail (its on a unix box that uses fetchmail to get all my mail
into a single account.
I don't see why filtering the body of an IMAP message (downloaded or not) is
"impossible." Afterall, all my messages ARE download and other rules distribute
them to local mail boxes... but they are not filtered by the local rules when
delivered, as far as I can see. Frustrating.

Related to 201244? The two bugs share attributes.

This bug seems to have resurfaced in Thunderbird 1.5 RC1
Note: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=339778
In my case, the problem was only tested with POP email accounts, though it may be related to the documented IMAP bug.

I can confirm this bug on Thunderbird 1.5 official release
It worked on the previous release and is very annoying since i use quite a few body filters... :-(

Filter on body for incoming messages has never worked for IMAP, so you must be using POP. You must have a different bug, altho I have no problem with my filter-on-body running for a POP account, not since Mozilla 1.2 and not with
TB 1.5 or 1.6a1.
