when in offline mode, moving a message from the inbox into an IMAP folder can 
cause the message to re-appear in the inbox when going back to online mode. the 
message then will be both in the desired IMAP folder *and* the inbox.

I haven't yet found out in which cases it happens, it is very rare. And only on 
a very slow P133 notebook computer. Usually, if flags are applied to the moved 
message (like read, replied, important etc) they are also applied to the one 
that stays in the inbox.

Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. go into offline mode
2. move a message from inbox to an imap folder
3. go online again

Actual Results:  
in rare cases, the message will appear again in the inbox.

Expected Results:  
message should not duplicate

I can confirm this bug, which appears not very often. Sometimes mails deleted
many days ago reappear in the inbox. Every mail moved from the inbox to another
local folder stays saved in the inbox.

I find this occurs when I shut down Thunderbird while in off-line mode, and then
start back up (automatically starting in online mode)

Workaround: before shutting down Thunderbird, go back into online mode.

Obviously if you're working offline without a connection it's not feasible to go
online before shutting down. It's not a real solution.

This same thing has happened to me so I can confirm this bug.  I suspect it may
happen when Thunderbird is not exited cleanly (due to a crash or a system
shutdown). I am on Fedora Core 2 running Thunderbird 1.0.6 (20050716).

While offline I moved about 650 email messages to various IMAP folders (leaving
about 350 in the INBOX).  I did this in 2 distinct sessions in Thunderbird. 
During the first, I opened thunderbird, filed about 200 messages to imap
folders, then quit thunderbird (while still in offline mode).  Later I reopened
thunderbird (it came up in offline mode), filed another 450 messages to various
folders, but then my laptop battery died so the whole machine shut down.  When I
restarted later under power, Thunderbird started in offline mode and showed that
the INBOX contained the expected 350 or so messages, but as soon as I clicked
the button to go online, all of the 650 messages that I had filed were restored
to my INBOX (along with my new messages).  Other times I have filed a lot of
messages and they are filed fine.

This can be reproduced by:
1) Open thunderbird
2) Switch to offline mode
3) File one or more messages in IMAP folders and note how many messages are in INBOX
4) Cause Thunderbird to exit unexpectedly (e.g., terminate thunderbird using
kill -9 on linux)
5) restart Thunderbird (The number of messages filed should be the same as after
step (3))
6) Switch to online mode -- messages filed to imap folders will reappear in INBOX

I see this also using TB 1.0.7 on Windows.  
This seems to happen when I go back to online mode and there is any sort of an error connecting to the imap server.  

To reproduce:
Go offline
refile some messages/change their status
Disable network connection (i.e. unplug cable)
Go online (click the icon in the lower-left hand corner of the window)

Actual result:
Messages end up both in original and destination folder

Desired result:
Messages end up only in destination folder

 Go offline

    (this will fail but thunderbird will now be out of offline mode.
     Clear any "failure to connect to server" modal boxes)
 Now reconnect to the network and click "Get Mail"
 The messages will be duplicated in the inbox.

Please reopen bug if you see otherwise with version 2 or trunk build.
