Details

User-Agent: Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Currently, the suite and thunderbird lack file-->open within mail/news. This is a logical place for it. specifically, since file-->open in the *browser* portion of the suite does not have a radio button for mail/news. It's a polish issue and an end-user issue--I never would have thought to attempt to import mail using the open command in the browser. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
We don't need unnecessary UI duplication. Unless we have something to open, no need for the menu item. We have an import menu item for importing. Thunderbird is in large part a UI *cleanup*. Besides, we have an "Open Message" already in that place. This would create to much confusion.
Perhaps I didn't make myself sufficiently clear. Currently, file-->open a .msg file and it opens up in mail. import does not have a facility for importing individual .msg files, so I filed this bug realizing that we needed a file-->open command specific to mail/news to open .msg files outside the program. If you want to change the summary to add this functionality to import, be my guest. --Sam

Summary: [rfe] need file-->open inside mail/news → [rfe] need abilty to open .eml files
I'm confused. Is this a dupe because the thunderbird functionality will eventually be merged into mail/news? otherwise, this bug deals with mail/news, the other bug with thunderbird.
This is a dup, because if it's going into only 1, it's going into thunderbird. I expect it to go into mail&news, hence thunderbird since it uses the M&N backend. We have a bug, with lots of useful comments to work off of. So this bug, is a dup of the original rfe.
Sam Katz, also be aware of bug 11076 and bug 204350.
