CSS 2.0 in 12.2 <http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2/generate.html#content> says:
...
Authors may include newlines in the generated content by writing the "\A" escape
sequence in one of the strings after the 'content' property. This inserts a
forced line break, similar to the BR element in HTML.
...

Mozilla doesn't force line break in generated content when "\A" , see testcase.
(Opera 7.5 PR 2 render testcase right)

According to bug 17646 comment 15, it's not supposed to work (in CSS 2.1).
