It would be easier, if this command can be given via keyboard shortcut. If there
is no shortcut yet because of security reasons, an additional "Do you really
want ..." might be ok, too.

Yes, please please add a keyboard shortcut for "Compact this folder".

Maybe a toolbar item is appropriate too?

D. Winkler: did you intend this bug for "Compact *This* Folder" or for
"Compact *All* Folders"?  The latter can be gotten to by keyboard, via:
 Alt+F, F

The former via:
 Ctrl+Shift+F10, F
or (at least under Windows)
 MenuKey, F

Note that the context menu pops up in an unexpected location when the MenuKey or 
Ctrl+Shift+F10 is pressed.

This only works if the folder list has the focus. A menu item would be
preferable IMHO.

Bug 86161 has an attachment for MailNews that claims to provide a Ctrl-K 
shortcut for Compact This Folder, altho I haven't tried it.  This may work for 
Thunderbird, too, perhaps needing a little tweaking.
