The MailView box is located next to the QuickSearch entry field. Both fields behave similarly, with one glaring exception: when you switch to a different folder, the MailView remains set, the QuickSearch clears. I suggest that the MailView be reset (to 'All') on a folder change. I also suggest that there be a "lock" placed on that toolbar; if the lock is set, then neither item will be reset on a folder change.
One could argue the complete opposite. That Quick Search should persist as well. That way, if I search my trash, and it's not found, toggle to Junk, and see if it's in there. Or my many other mail folders.
Hmm... that was strange, got cut off. Add to comment 1: No matter what, it shoulb be consistant across Quick Search and MailView.
Robert, I agree that persistence is, at least occasionally, desirable; that's why I suggested the 'lock' control to be added to the toolbar. A lock could be as simple as a checkbox, but would ideally be just an icon, as text would take valuable space from the QuickSearch field. I'm thinking of something like the push-pin icons that are used in MS's Visual.NET development tools -- when a slide-out pane is "pinned", it stays in place rather than sliding back into the window border.
Given that the MailView is now sticky on a per-folder basis, the original intent of this bug is lost.
