I have ADSL the week only.
During weekends, if I start FireFox without internet connexion, it display a
totally gray window and I can't do anything.
By changing homepage in config files it start well.
But if I click on a WEB link, it doesn't respond another time : try to load a
page non-recheable !
I can avoid this strange behaviour
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Do not be connected to internet
2. Follow an internet link
3. And see a beautiful crash : window do not respond
Actual Results:
Window not respondable and non refreshed
Expected Results:
Do not crash :-)
Firefox 0.8 on Linux Mandrake 9.2
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040727 Firefox/0.9.1+
Not sure if I'm doing the same thing... but here's what happens for me:
With no 'net connection, opening up firefox (with the default mozilla home page:
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/start/) displays a blank window with an
alert saying "www.mozilla.org could not be found. Please check the name and try
again." This is correct behavior; no crashes occur.
WORKSFORME

The problem, I think, is the ADSL(ethernet) connection.
During weeks I have ADSL (by ethernet) connection.
But during weekends I only have 56k modem, but the ADSL connection is perhapse
"considered as active" by the Linux kernel or GTK lib... or Mozilla (don't know).
Then, Mozilla perhapse try to reach WEB sites by ADSL connection but this
connection never reply... and *The Interface Froze* :-(
When 56k is active, Mozilla seem reach the WEB pages by it, so no freeze.
BUT, I must take care of always make me "offline" before disconnect myself and
if the 56k connection suddently disappears Mozilla FREEZE and I loss all my web
pages... And because my 56k connection is a s**t it often disconnect or it is
very slow... Mozilla then freeze.
On my old PC, with *only* 56k it doesn't freeze.
Note: Evolution also freeze as soon as the internet connection is not up and he
try to send/receive my mails.
I haven't this problem with any KDE program.
