Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040210 Firefox/0.8
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040210 Firefox/0.8

When deleting a message in the standalone message window and the settings for
"When I delete a message:" is set to "Mark it as deleted", the behavior is not
the same as if the setting were "Move it to the trash folder." When "Move
it..." is set, the most previous message is displayed in the message window.
When "Mark it..." is set the message remains in the window and "nothing" seems
to happen (however, the message is marked for deletion in the inbox view).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. For an IMAP account, set "When I delete a message:" to "Mark it as deleted."
2. Open any message in an IMAP account in the standalone message window, and
click the delete button.
Actual Results:
the message will be marked as deleted in the UI in the folder of the IMAP
account, but nothing seems to happen in the open message window.

Expected Results:
The software could do one of three options:
1. Move to the previous email, as it does when delete option is set to "Move it..."
2. Close the standalone message window, to show that "something" has been done
3. Toggle a graphic / infomation bar (similar to junk mail?) that notifies the
user the current message is currently marked for deletion

This is similar to a bug reported about the delete button on the UI not toggling
from "Delete" to "Undelete"
It makes most sense to show the status (ie: marked as deleted or not) just as we
do in the main mail window. If it's possible to have the text in the titlebar
styled as struckout (ie: line-through) that would, IMO, be the best and simplest
option.

The results are insidious. Because it does not advance, second delete key actually UNMARKs deletion unbeknownst to the user. Watch the 3-pane window with standalone window open.

The question - is not advancing for "Mark it as deleted" = working as designed? I suspect not. In 3 page hitting the delete key advances to the next message.

display delete status ala TAGS is a useful RFE/new bug. But I rather think it's not a solution for this bug.

I thought this was by design, see bug 274628 Comment #57
Was fixed for tb3beta3 in bug 486954.
