Description

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8

If you use Google to search for something, FireFox will warn you that the data
is unencrypted, with a toggle to always/never warn about this. Using the Google
searchbar in the browser itself does not yield this warning. This is inconsistent.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Remove FireFox profile
2. Open FireFox
3. Use toolbar to run a Google search
Actual Results:
No security warning

Expected Results:
FireFox should produce the same warning that would be produced for an actual
search on the Google page

There is of course the additional, thorny usability issue that we don't want to
scare users with security warnings about built in functionality.

I believe this is a duplicate of an existing report.
This bug was last touched before 1.0.4. Is it still reproducable?
Try the latest branch build (1.0.5): http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
Try the latest nightly trunk build (v1.0+): http://www.mozilla.org/developer
(Reviving old UNCONFs)

I can reproduce with "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1b2) Gecko/20060904 BonEcho/2.0b2". I don't see any obvious dupes.

Sorry, I shouldn't have confirmed this in the "General" component. ;) I believe this goes under "Security" or "Page Info"?

Bug 323256 deals with the warning not appearing when performing a "quick search". This bug however, deals with the warning not appearing when performing a search in the search bar. Notice the difference? :)

Tell you what, how about if I let you re-mark it as a duplicate after you've read comment 1 in that bug, by the project lead, and comment 2, by the UI lead, and then asked yourself whether or not those two comments cover this bug.
