The folders pane shows new messages next to each folder but when any news folder
is opened there are no messages shown at all. The new message indication is then
gone from the folder pane too. If I unsubscribe then re-subscribe I can see the
messages for only as long as that group is open. If I exit and return to that
group, all messages are gone.
Exiting the program does not help.
I think this started when I impatiently may have tried to select a group while
it was still downloading new messages.

Probably a dupe of bug 160963, but there have been a lot of bugs filed for this 
problem and I don't know if others are open for conditions other than cancelled 
messages.

I don't think it's a duplicate of bug 160963. I've got a similar problem: folder
pane shows over 1000 new messages but only approx. 10 (quite old ones) get
downloaded and others are just dismissed so I've got over 1000 missing messages.
In bug 160963 there is a complaint about one single message missing due to
cancelled messages.

you can reproduce the problem for example with server news.estpak.ee and
newsgroup alt.fan.harry-potter (TB 1.0.5)

Lack of information, resolving incomplete.

Please comment if the issue still occurs in the latest supported Thunderbird 2.0.0.x or trunk nightlies.
