in the german version alt+a (mark all messages) in any mailfolder opens the view
menu.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. get german version
2. open mail client
3. go to your e.g. junk folder
4. press alt+a to mark all messages

Actual Results:  
the view menu appears

Expected Results:  
mark all messages

Actually, this really sounds like a real problem in Seamonkey to me.

Why the hell are we using Alt+A for "Select all", if we're using Strg+anything
for almost all other shortcuts, and all other apps are using Strg+A for "Select
all" as well?

Using 1.8a4
Everything is ok. Strg(Ctrl)+a marks all messages in the selected pane and alt+a
opens the View menu. Is there still a problem?

The Edit menu (actually all over the place) still says "Alt+A" here... Though
Strg+A (Cmd+A) does mark all... Interesting...

This bug is filed on Linux, and still seems valid on Linux for me?
Michael, are you seeing this on Windows? If yes, you just confirmed that it's
platform specific.

OK, so this actually is only a problem of Mozilla showing the wrong key binding
in the UI, as actually it uses Ctrl/Strg+A for "Select all" (if not in emacs
style) but this isn't reflected in the menus.
Alt+A is always free for the "Ansicht" menu accesskey (except when e.g. a web
page like this Bugzilla form has its own accesskeys that obverrides the browser's).

This actually makes this bug INVALID, while there's still an open issue, which I
filed as bug 279163
