Printing (previewing or paper printing or even file printing) does not work on
most of web pages I've tried.
Two cases:
 - no text appears, only frames and pictures. Perhaps a font problem?
(http://www.w3.org/)
 - text is present, but completly screwed up, with every characters overlapping
(http://www.emse.fr/~xserpagg/)

Moreover, on the last page, styles (cCSS) are not properly rendered (fixed
position header for example).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. http://www.w3.org/
2. File -> Print Preview
3. No text

4. http://www.emse.fr/~xserpagg/
5. File -> Print Preview
6. Text overlapping

Expected Results:
- Correctly format the page so it is pretty printed!
- Replace fonts if they do not exist for printing.
- correctly handle CSS.

Moreover, what would be really great is that Firefox scale the pages (fonts,
pictures, ...) so the width of the display matches the width of the selected
paper type.

This happens with pages containing style (CSS) or not.

What's the name of the printer you are selecting in FireFox's print dialog - is
it "Postscript/default" ?

Yes it is.
I have none other available.

So, I have some news.
As stated earlier, the printer is PostScript/default.

Then, I've tried to change the font used by Firefox itsel.
I use sans-serif families.
I've tried most of the fonts available in the selection list, and the only
one giving a result when printing is "Courier New" (family Monotype in
xfontsel(1x)). Using this font, the result is as expected.
All the other fonts give a result textless, which is not really easy to read ;)

Hope it helps.
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040727 Firefox/0.9.1+

I get the same result as reporter for the second website (emse.fr) but w3.org
works correctly.

Changing all of the font options (Serif, Sans Serif, Monotype) in Firefox
options results in the same behavior (overlapping text for emse.fr, working for
w3.org).
I have the same kind of problems with mozilla 1.7 on Slackware 10.0. Moreover;
what we see in the "print preview" does not correspond to the ps file that is
actually generated. I have seen that the printing features strongly differ for
the same (or almost the same) version of mozilla under different linux distro
(it was right in mandrake 9.2 and I think in Mandrake 10.0 and totally wrong in
Mandrake 10.1; wrong but better than in Mandrake 10.0 in Slackware 10.0). I
suspect that the libraries (GDK, XFT, ...) mozilla link with has great importance.

Rem: Netscape 7.2 print correctly.

I have exactly the same problem when printing.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=239267
2. File -> Print Preview
3. No text

I've added the screenshot of Print Preview.
Word wrap doesn't work correctly when printing or doing a print preview.
Under Mac OS X 10.3.9, Deer Park 1.6a1 20060228 nothing happens when "Page
Setup" is selected. When print is selected get error message "Printer Error
Unknown error occured while printing."

Happens with a clean profile. FF 1.5 prints ok. SeaMonkey 1.5a has same
problem

Hello,
This bug is 9 years old. Even if I still use FF, so any things have changed since, I couldn't even imagine to reproduce it.
I guess tagging it as resolved/canceled would be correct.
Thank you.
