Details
(Keywords: crash)
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; nl-NL; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030821
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; nl-NL; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113
When a pdf document is displayed in Mozilla, and the Acrobat reader plugin is
installed, the document is shown in the browser window.
When the print icon in the top of that window (or frame) is clicked, the
document is printed OK.
When "Print" is selected from the Mozilla "File" window, or when the Print icon
in the Mozilla toolbar is clicked, the Acrobat reader issues an error popup and
crashes, leaving a white window or frame.
The popup says:
DDE Server Window: AcroRd32 - Application error
The instruction at 0x00430bdc points to a memory location 0x00000024. The
read-action failed.
(error message translated back to English from localized version)
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Mozilla 1.6
2. Install Acrobat reader (I used 5.05 and 5.1 with same result)
3. Visit page that is a .pdf file
4. Print page using Mozilla's print function
Although the workaround is simple (use the print icon in the Acrobat bar instead
of the Mozilla bar), users keep reporting this bug to our helpdesk.

Works fine for me with Mozilla 2004040110 and Adobe 6. If I press print in
Mozilla I get the print dialog from Acrobat Reader.

Did you press OK on that? The bug only occurs when actually printing something.

WFM Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040402
Firefox/0.8.0+ and Acrobat 5.
Document printed fine.

Tested with Mozilla 1.6 and Acrobat Reader 6.01 -> same problem.
Tests made on several Win2K systems, but all installed same way (network install).
Happens to me too. DOesn't happen all the time; file can't be printed, but
saving the file works. File can then be printed by launching acrobat from
outside the browser.

Did you compare printing from Mozilla (with the print icon in the icon bar or
the item in the File menu) with printing from the Acrobat plugin (with the print
icon in its own toolbar)?
For me, the first does not work and the second does work.

JFYI, the described problem cannot be reproduced by be on Windows/NT 4.0 sp6a,
running Mozilla 1.7rc2 (2004051508), and Acrobat Reader 5.1 (which is the most
recent for that platform), using Mozilla's 'Print' button in the toolbar.
Let's hope your problem is gone with Mozilla 1.7 (rc2).

Rob Janssen: Are you able to reproduce this bug with Mozilla 1.7.5 or Mozilla
1.8b2 or actual nightbuild?
Severity: normal → critical

(In reply to comment #8)
I have just tried to print a page and it worked ok (Moz 1.7.5, Acrobat Reader 5.05).
I also heard no recent complaints. Sorry for not reporting that.
