Revising Summary per comment 3. Mark, what are the details of your proxy
configuration?
Summary: This URL will not load. I need to kill the application and restart Firefox → URL will not load when proxy auto-configuration is enabled
I see the same bug as well.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040615 Firefox/0.9

SunOS heman 5.8 Generic_117000-01 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-4

Home page or launch URL attempts to load before auto-configuration completes.
(Confirmed? HW-ALL? OS-ALL)

Easily tested in my corporate environment.

1) Set proxy auto-configuration, set home page to address outside the firewall.
 2) Launch Mozilla.
3) Observe result, either:
" 'site' could not be found. Please check the name and try again. "
       or
    Successful load of webpage.
(if failure, click home button to display web page)
Reporter are you seeing what was described in comment 6 or is the problem only
with the specific URL you provided?

Bug 255006 is currently dealing with the issue in comment 6 but it may be a
duplicate of this bug.
This is likely to be caused by bug 100022.

Please try downloading your PAC file as a local file, and using it via a file
URL, and see if that helps. If you need specific steps, email me.

You might find this helpful as well:

It is a bit new, but intended to be informative in this kind of problem.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Depends on: 100022
Ever confirmed: true
Yes. Speeding up the loading process so that it "happens to complete" before
the initial external page is loaded does help. Our .pac file changes frequently
to help load balance, I think. But this is "a good thing" for those of us who
prefer to use Mozilla anyway.

Copying the .pac file to a local disk annd creating a file://url
(file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/.../filename.pac) to point to it for the
proxy auto-configuration works.
I have this same problem when using manual proxy configuration.
I had to use Internet Exploder to open this page now.
I'm behind an ISA Server 2003. Didn't have this problem before using the proxy
client, which lets you work just like if you have a direct connection, i.e.
without configuring proxy for FireFox.
Ossama, this bug describes a PAC-only problem. If you have problems w/ manual
proxy, open a new bug.
No longer depends on: 100022
