Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040326 Firefox/0.8.0+
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040326 Firefox/0.8.0+; Mozilla Thunderbird 0.5 (20040207)

If clicking a link in Mozilla Thunderbird with Firefox as default browser, the
link will open in Firefox normally, but Thunderbird will also treat the link as
an attachtment, asking the user what to do.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Thunderbird.
2. Make sure Firefox is set as default browser.
3. Click any link in any message.
Actual Results:
Firefox opens link, but Thunderbird treats link as attatchment, asking the user
what to do.

Expected Results:
Firefox opens link.
I also experiance this bug. It seems to affect any link inside an email. You
click the link and Firefox opens, but you also get a save file dialog. The save
dialog is unnecessary unless it is actually an attachment instead of a link, and
Thunderbird should be able to tell the difference.

I recommend changing this to confirmed.
Bug doesn't seem to affect milestone release of 0.8
I'm also seeing this on Windows 2000. My default browser is set to Firefox 0.8,
and am testing with a fresh install of Thunderbird 0.6.

Clicked links are downloaded and the HTML is then offered to be opened in
"htmlfile", which ends up being IE (icky explorer). Although it is possible to
choose another application (including Firefox), this is still silly -- it should
be passing the link to the application, not downloading the HTML and loading that.
Confirmed also on W2000 Pro. This behaviour started somewhere at the end of
March or the beginning of April. It is a Thunderbird (or MailNews, but I don't
use Mozilla Suite) thing, because other applications open links fine, ie.
without the second Open With window.
Submitter: Please change severity to major or critical.

It should also be "blocking 0.7" and the OS should be "all".
Severity: normal → major
OS: Windows XP → All
Severity: major → critical
Starting with Thunderbird version 0.6+ (20040606) (Branch, installer version,
Windows XP Home), I am seeing this problem. This is the first release of Tbird
that has caused this for me; previous Branch/Installer releases have worked
properly.

For example:

Click on http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=564800#564800 in Tbird.

1. A tab will open in Firefox showing this link correctly.

2. A box will pop up, with this information, taken from a screen shot:

                          Flags: ( Help!
  Opening viewtopic.php

    You have chosen to open

          viewtopic.php
    which is a:HTML Document
    from: http://forums.mozillazine.org/

What should Thunderbird do with this file?

2a. The text "Flags: ( Help!" is NOT visible in the pop-up box! I did not
know it was there until I used SnagIt to make a text capture of part of the box.

3. This same type of behavior is also exhibited with other types of links in
Thunderbird, such as
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2004/06/05/MNG1K71GGL1.DTL
I'm gonna dupe this of another bug were I am investigating why this is happening.

Duplicate? The thing might be related, but I definitely have Firefox set as
default browser. Sure it is a duplicate?
