241764 - Downloading EXEs produces error instead of running them

Please see the following screenshots. I have Firefox running on Windows 2000,
and I get the normal dialog box that lets me open or save a file when I click a
link to a file with a MIME type other than text/*.

However, my friend, who uses Windows XP (and whose Firefox I'm using to submit
this), experiences the problem outlined in the second screenshot. Not only are
the Open/Save options missing, but also the OK button is disabled and the file
cannot even be downloaded.

Sometimes, as when downloading the Adobe Reader at
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep_servefile.html?hasjavascript=1&esdcanbeused=1&esdcanhandle=0&language=English&platform=WinMEXP&connectionspeed=broadband&option=full&getpase=1&x=14&y=6,
the OK button is not actually grayed, but even then the file only downloads
partly and never opens - Firefox pops up some error message saying that the file
could not be run. It gives the path to the file as the Temp directory of the
active user's profile, and the file is actually there, but incomplete(!!). Once
the error message is acknowledged, it deletes the file again.

The build you reported this bug on is well over a month old, a lot of things
are fixed during that time span. I recommend you download the latest nightly
build and install it with a fresh profile, then post the results to this bug. :)

What?! If so many things change that the latest official release is too old to
report bugs of, you should seriously produce more frequent releases.

Where can I find an installable binary of the latest build that I don't need to
compile myself or anything?

My friend has tried it and has reported that the grayed OK button problem is
fixed, but the problem shown in the third attachment to this bug is still present.

He is experiencing it with almost any EXE file, but the one mentioned in the
original bug description is

The file downloads perfectly for me using:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a) Gecko/20040504
Firefox/0.8.0+

This WFM in Firefox 0.9 on Windows and Linux. I'm marking as such. Please reopen
if you or your friend can reproduce this in Firefox 0.9 or newer using a clean
profile.
