Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a) Gecko/20040426 Firefox/0.8.0+
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a) Gecko/20040426 Firefox/0.8.0+

In previous builds holding shift and scrolling with the mouse wheel resulted in
horizontal scrolling. This is default behavior in Mac OSX and the only OS
native way in which the user can scroll horizontally without actually
interacting with the GUI. Now, holding down shift and scrolling with the mouse
wheel causes the browser to move back and forward through the history.

I personally think it would be best to stick with what people know (at least on
an OS by OS basis). People like CTRL/CMD+S to save their document and don't
want that mucked with, and there are many users that would feel the same way
about their horizontal scrolling. I'm not sure if this is native behavior in
Windows or Linux, but in Macintosh it isn't.

I'm sure people will manage if nothing is changed there, but an alternative at
least should be offered. In the build of Firefox mentioned above I'm not able
to scroll horizontally using any keyboard shortcut that I have found, and using
the arrow keys or the GUI is a little tedious for regular browsing. This also
changes the way in which the new Microsoft mice work: their horizontal scrolling
causes the pages to move back and forward (I assume because they are mapped to
Shift+Scroll at least in Macintosh).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Hold shift and scroll.
Actual Results:
Mozilla moves backward and forward through history.

Expected Results:
Horizontal scrolling.
Product: Browser → Seamonkey
Bug 277567 deals with a similar issue; hardware (configured track pad,
horizontal tilt wheel on a mouse) that once scrolled horizontally now navigates
Back and Forward.
