I cannot add any application - would love to make OpenOffice my default for Word
(as an example) but am not allowed to add any - not even word

Steps to Reproduce:
1.click on a link that is a .doc

Actual Results:  
nothing - the system does not know what to do with file

Expected Results:  
Open Iffice should start and let me read the file

Works fine in Mozilla
Summary: I am unable to open any apllicatioon except PDF's under File Types in download → I am unable to open any application except PDFs under File Types in download
I am unable to change the default open with file action for .doc file... similar
to bug 225574... other programs that *should* be able to open .doc files are
grayed out (TextEdit) but I wouldn't dup it due to the fact Firefox is trying to
open an X11 app.
