User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8 When first visiting a site that embedds a java applet, firefox slows to a crawl for 1/2 to 1 min. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. clear JVM cache (on windows, done in java plugin control panel applet) 2. launch firefox 3. clear browser cache 4. goto any page that contains a java applet Actual Results: Firefox slows to a crawl while applet loads and initializes. Applet load an initialization also seems to take an inordinate amount of time (as compared to IE, safari, etc.) This slowdown causes pages that have applets to be temporarily un-usable. This slow-down will discourage Java developers from targeting Firefox. Expected Results: Firefox should remain responsive while loading java applets. My platform: OS: Win2k Browser: Firefox 0.8 JVM: Sun JRE 1.4.2
Can you provide a testcase. If not, this is either WFM of invalid.
(In reply to comment #1) > Can you provide a testcase. If not, this is either WFM of invalid. This bug report _already_ includes a section that lists the steps necessary to reproduce this problem. What else is needed?
I've moved this down the severity ladder to Major as it dosn't crash the system. Also, reporter, have you tried this with the new Java and Firefox versions?
Severity: critical → major
get a faster HD / system is the solution. Java requires a huge amount of loading ->WFM
