Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a) Gecko/20040504 Firefox/0.8.0+ Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 0.6 (20040502) When receiving QuarkXPress files with Thunderbird, Mac OS X (10.2.8) does not recognize them as XPress files. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Save attached QuarkXPress file from received message 2. Double click to launch file in QuarkXPress; or right click and select 'Open With' QuarkXPress 3. Actual Results: When double clicking, an error message is received saying no applications are found to open file. When using 'Open With' QuarkXPress 5, file is not opened. Files are able to be opened from inside XPress. Expected Results: File should open in QuarkXPress in either case.
dgallagher@bellsouth.net, if you attach an example Quark file to this bug (“Create a New Attachment”; be sure to provide the correct MIME type, vnd.Quark.QuarkXPress), does it open in Quark if you click the link to it using Mozilla or Firefox?

No. They download the file with a generic icon. Trying to launch the file reproduces the results listed in the bug report.
Additionally, XPress files received by Thunderbird or Mozilla mail/news are unrecognizable from within the application as well unless I manually add the .qxd extension. But even after adding the extension it is not recognized by the system as a .qxd file - only from within the application.
Reporter, is this fixed in Thunderbird 1.0 ?
Still present. However, I'm beginning to believe that it is more of a mac-specific problem than something within Thunderbird. For instance, receiving an XPress file in a .zip archive will cause the file to lose its identity requiring the addition of the .qxd extension. This can be seen using either Thunderbird or Apple Mail. I believe this problem has a lot more to do with cross-platform operations within either the operating system's compression techniques or Quark's lackluster cross-platform support. At this point I'd suggest closing the bug seeing as how it doesn't seem to be Thunderbird's problem.
