The junk mail filter in Mozilla and Thunderbird is very good at marking spam as junk. I think that Mozilla nad Thunderbird could be improved quite a bit if we treat junk mail differently then normal mail. For example I have this in mind: 1. By default don't download images and other objects from the internet if the mail message is marked as junk. I think this would be good as some spammers use images as a verification that a certain e-mail address exists and works. 2. Download images only when a user clicks on the button Not junk. 3. Add a note about this different treatment of the junk mail to the About Junk Mail dialog box. 4. Maybe we could also add a configuration option on how to display junk mail into Junk Mail Control dialog box. For example like an option to download or not to download (default) the images for junk mail. Or an option to display junk mail as plain text only. Maybe someone has any other usefull idea about the treatment of junk mail?
Item 1 is bug 179568, more or less. I would dupe this bug to that one if I were you. By Item 2, I assume you mean "remote images" -- embedded images have to be downloaded with the message, at least for POP. This item is a simple corollary of the first. Item 4 might be nice, but I don't see the need for it.
