User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113
When I log into eBay, I always log in using SSL sign-in. This works successfully
and I head to the "My eBay" page. From here, I do searches, click on items that
I'm watching, add items to watch list, etc. Usually a few minutes after I've
logged in, and after I've clicked on a few links, I will click on a new one and
mozilla will simply disappear. No Netscape feedback agent, no dialog boxes, it
simply vanishes from the screen and is no longer listed in the Windows Task
Manager processes list. When I restart Moz, it brings back up the splash screen
and starts up fine.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
This is one of those annoying bugs that is hard to track down. Interestingly, it
doesn't happen to me at work, where I'm also running Mozilla 1.6 on Windows XP
SP1. These are the steps that cause it to happen to me at home:
1. Log into eBay using SSL... may or may not happen when not using SSL sign-in
2. Head to My eBay and click on some links
3. Keep clicking, searching, moving around. Eventually Mozilla will just crash
and disappear from the screen.
Actual Results:
Mozilla crashes and disappars
Expected Results:
NOT crash and NOT disappear. Or, if it simply must crash, then at least launch
the Netscape Feedback Agent so I can submit a bug report.
-Using the "Rain" theme for Mozilla 1.6
-The crash doesn't seem to cause any system stability problems, but it's a big
pain to have to restart Mozilla, log in to everything again, and just hope that
I can do what needs to be done on eBay before it crashes again.

Just double-tested this one...
-Does not seem to happen until I log in.
-Does not matter if I sign in using SSL or not - both cause the same crash.
Earlier today it happened when I clicked a link in My eBay under Items I'm
Watching, and it just happened after logging in and clicking "Watch This Item"
when viewing an aunction.
Summary: After logging into eBay using SSL and clicking through some pages, Mozilla suddenly and mysteriously disappears → After logging into eBay and clicking through some pages, Mozilla suddenly and mysteriously disappears

I can confirm this!
I've tried with Mozilla 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7 -> same problem!
But I think I have a better way to reproduce it:
1. Use Mozilla with a non-default skin (This is important, 'cause with the
default skins Mozilla won't crash!) (I've tried Orbit Retro and Plastikzilla)
2. Go to http://www.ebay.de/
3. Click 'eBay Motors'
4. Click 'US-Cars'
5. Most of the time Mozilla closes itself, crashes or hangs (if not: go back one
page and repeat step 4)
Another Method to reproduce:
1. + 2. as described above
3. In the textbox left of the drop-down (with the entry 'Alle Kategorien'
selected) enter 'Technodrome 20' or 'Mellow-D' (I think any other CD title /
artist name should be ok, too) and click 'Finden'
4. as described above (ok, this time you have to repeate step 3 if Mozilla
really doesn't want to crash :-))

Markus Schuster: Could you provide Talkback incident ID of crash with Mozilla 1.7?
Comment 4•21 years ago
|
||
@Adam Hauner:
Of course I can! I made these two talkbacks specially for this bug.
With my first method to reproduce (ebaymotors):
TB247293M
With my second method to reproduce (searching for CD):
TB247329W
With Mozilla 1.7 the behavior of this bug is really weird:
- Sometimes Mozilla just "hangs" when loading this pages; but it doesn't really
hang, only the render engine seems to hang, the UI is still "clickable" (menus
open and so on) but not really useable (can't open new windows or click links
nor stop loading or reload the page). Hard to explain correctly.
- Sometimes Mozilla just closes itself and opens a talkback window (the two
talkback IDs were generated this way).
- And sometimes Mozilla loads the pages without any problems and after going
back and clicking the link again it crashes...
As I said: really wired :-)

Markus: Due to a recent Talkback database upgrade aren't older incidents
available. Could I ask you again for TalkBack incident ID? I do apologize for
complication.
