Details
What I like very much about kmail (and others) is their button: "Check Server"
(or something like this. Whick looks whether a pop/imap server can do
SSL/APOP/MD5/... and disables the unsupported capabilities. Very often when
configuring a mail account I find myself experimenting with all settings only to
get told "Server does not recognize secure authentication" or waiting for an SSL
timeout.

Yep gotta say this is a very useful feature of kmail that I'd like to see in thunderbird.
I saves a lot of messing about when the server is upgraded to include different authentication methods.
