Using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a) Gecko/20040513 Firefox/0.8.0+ i try to install the Cult 3d plugin, http://www.cult3d.com/newuser/index.html, but both automatic and manual install fail. This is not really a bug in Mozilla/Firefox as it is a faulty 3rd party installer. But it works with the Moz suite. Maybe it's a Tech Evang bug? Nevertheless, maybe this issue is resolved faster when Cult is approached based on a Moz bug by a Firefox developer?
Timeless: i received a counter question from Cycore, the plugin builder. Can you help me with that one? :) "Recent version of Mozilla and Firefox says, when installing from the XPI package, that the Cult3D Viewer is "Unsigned", but as I understood it from the documentation, plug-ins created for Mozilla based browsers shouldn't be signed as opposed from the Netscape 4. Can you clarify this for me?"
Problem is confirmed by Cycore, producers of the Cult plugin. Getting good feedback from them. Plugin installation wfm under 1.8a and wfthem on 1.6, but not on 1.7RC1 or RC2.
Moving it to Browser, as the Plug-in manufacturer has some problems installing this under Moz as well as under Firefox. Received update from Cycore: >Today I have further investigated the problem why the Cult3D plug-in >won't install on newer Mozilla/Firefox browsers. > >After some tests I found that the XPI installation works if you >initiate the installation by pressing a button, while if the plug-in >installation is initiated by a HTML OnLoad event XPI >InstallTrigger.install returns the errorcode -210 (Installation >stopped by user). The same thing happens if the installation is >initiated by a Javascript setTimeout. Received a test scenario from the manufacturer. I will attach this shortly as a zip file.

Got feedback from plug-in builder Cycore a while ago. Can someone enlighten me on the following? "Hi Patrick. Thanks for the info. We found a sort of a workaround to install the Cult3D Viewer on newer Mozilla/Firefox browsers. There is now two clicks to install the Cult3D Viewer., the first is to come to the download page, and there the user itself must actively begin the XPI installation. In the past it only required the user to click once on the download page to initiate the XPI installation. So this old install behaviour falls under the restriction newer Mozilla's has to block less serious sites use to automatically initiate XPI installation. It is slightly more complicated for the user but it works. So what you say in your e-mail is that in future releases of Mozilla, only trusted sites can install XPI's by default? Does a company like Cycore have any chance to become part of the Mozilla plug-in install white list?"
