243696 - firefox stops responding when visiting google groups beta

I tried to load the URL with a nightly from earlier in the month, and it froze
every time and the app had to be killed.  Downloaded the latest nightly and it
still freezes every time I visit.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to http://groups-beta.google.com/

Actual Results:  
Browser stops responding, beep sounded on every click

Expected Results:  
Page should have loaded

You're using an installer build, is that correct? If so, this is a dupe of bug
243696.

I've looked at that bug and a few of the duplicates, and the behavior is the
same, but I don't see how the page noted in this bug prompts a certificate dialogue.

oh yes, i failed to mention that in the last one.  i am.
