several people (me included) have mentioned this outlook 2003 feature as
something that would improve the user-friendliness of TB's threadview (i.e.
sender and date/time on one line and a long subject on second line).

Looking through the source code, it seems that the thread pane is composed of a
large xul tree element, rather than a table which i'd naively expected.

My limited xul knowledge tells me that there's no built-in "column-spanning"
functionality for these trees.

Thus it seems that the nice little two-line view may be unacheivable...

This would definitely be a great feature of Mozilla/TB, should it be added.  I
know it'd mean following MS, but it's a great feature "they" have and "we"
don't.  I'd say it would definitely be worth the effort.

Can anyone comment on whether this is feasible or not?
