User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a2) Gecko/20040528 Firefox/0.8 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a2) Gecko/20040528 Firefox/0.8 Every time you go to the tools-options dialog, you must re-size the dialog. The default size is not wide enough not to have to horizontally scroll in some of the option windows. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Goto Tools->Options, resize the dialog, Click Ok. 2. Goto Tools->Options, dialog size is back to default. Actual Results: Dialog size back to default. Expected Results: Dialog should retain new size. Running under Windows XP.

Can you attach a screenshot? The original size seems to be fine for me. As for it not saving its size. I think this is probably intentional.

I have the same problem. The window remembers its position but not its size. This is not a problem for the standard install. However if you use themes with different sized fonts or extensions that add extra entries in the options/options window then they will go off the side of the window. Meaning you will have to resize it all the time since it dosnt remember its size. My setup is WinXP, FF 0.9.2

Confirmed using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040920 Firefox/0.10 I'm using Noia theme and most of the time, the dialog box is not big enough when options are selected so scrollbars appear. As the dialog box is resizable, this is not a real problem, but the size should be saved.
confiming...I dont have the same issue with the need to horizontaly scroll but i the options pane does not remember size. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040925 Firefox/0.10

The new prefs panel on the current trunk now has a fixed size on windows, right? So I suggest this is WONTFIX.
#7 is right, the new pref panel makes it even worse as it's not resizable/scrollable at all.

The issue with wrong default size is different, and a few bugs are filed about it. This one is invalid, unless developers agree to make the dialog resizable again.

I disagree with Nickolay. Of course, the dialog should remain be resizable. I suppose even some plugings/extension might add their own settings and thus an inner panel in there. This size is unpredicatable.

Extensions should have their own prefs, we even provide an easy way to do so in the extension manager. I'm not sure whether this is really useful/desirable on Mac, though GNOME etc let you resize windows whether they should be or not. :)

Shows the options window size bug in FF 2.0

The size bug is still there, FF 2.0, Win XPsp2 (see attachment "Size bug in FF 2.0"). The bug is only visible if you've made changes to the windows theme or created your own windows theme, or changed windows font size, system scroll bar size, system title bar size, windows icon size and that sort of things. Restore the original windows theme and this bug goes invisible, no need to restart windows or FF or anything, just apply the theme. I hope this bug gets fixed very soon.

(In reply to comment #7) > The new prefs panel on the current trunk now has a fixed size on windows, > right? > So I suggest this is WONTFIX. => invalid for the original report, options is longer resizeable so not a valid bug for issues about options not fitting all the text: - bug 283697 should have fixed height issues - fixed in firefox 3 - bug 394791 for width issue is still open
