User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 Uncheck the checkbox at "Preferences" -> "Navigator" -> "Tabbed Browsing" -> "Hide the tab bar when only one tab is open". Now open the browser and make sure that only 1 tab is open (the content of that window is irrelevant). If you rightclick on the tab then the "Close Tab" menu item has correctly been greyed out (i.e. inactive). On the far right hand side of the tab bar is a button with an X on it. This is essentially the same action as the "Close Tab" menu item of the currently active tab. However this button is NOT greyed out and continues to function, in this situation it removes the entire Tab bar. I think this button should be greyed out in sync with the "Close Tab" menu item. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: As described above. Actual Results: I can close the tabbar with the X button. Expected Results: The X button should be disabled. I've been able to reproduce this issue in exactly the same way with Mozilla 1.6 on both Windows 2000 and Fedora Core 2 (Linux).

seems to amount to a bug 129550 dupe

Jag, who implemented this behavior (in Bug 150099) had earlier held the same view as the reporter of this bug (see Bug 109651, comments 12 and 13). Should this be resolved as WONTFIX, or should the original solution return? Several good reasons to go for the latter are given in Bug 150099, comment 28. It might be a good idea to re-evaluate them. Prog.
Summary: The X to close the last tab should be disabled. → The X to close the last tab should be disabled when only one tab is open

Come to think about it some more, this is a dupe of 156082, as not hiding the tab bar would probably mean reinstating the previous behavior (which this bug asks for). Sorry for the spam, Prog. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 156082 ***
