User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8 I open a new mail window in Thunderbird ( version 0.6 (20040502) ). In the message text area of the compose window, I try to paste a graphic which I "copied" (ctrl-c) in a Macromedia Director paint window. Thunderbird then completely crashes, sometimes after an "Application Error" dialog, sometimes without any further ado. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. In Macromedia Director, open a paint window. 2. Open a graphic in the Director's "Paint Window" 3. Select any area of the graphic, and press ctrl-c 4. In Thunderbird, click "Write" to open a new mail compose window. 5. Click in the message composition area, and press ctrl-v Alternatively, I'll try to attach two clipboard files ( .CLP ) which you can use to load the clipboard data which will crash Thunderbird. I also have a clipboard file containing the exact same graphic except it was first pasted into Photoshop and then copied from Photoshop, which pastes into Thunderbird without any problem. Actual Results: Either one of two things... 1) Immediate crash of Thunderbird or 2) An "Application Error" dialog with a "Click on OK to terminate the program" message. Expected Results: The graphic from the clipboard should have been inserted inline into the compose mail window. Here's an example of the message shown in the dialog after the crash... --------------------------- thunderbird.exe - Application Error --------------------------- The instruction at "0x77f580db" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written". Click OK to terminate the program. ---------------------------
How about downloading a 0.7 nightly which has talkback and submitting a crash report?
Use "Clipbook Viewer" to load this file into your clipboard ( \WINDOWS\system32\clipbrd.exe ).
This is the exact same graphic, except copied from Photoshop instead of from Macromedia Director.
This dialog only occasionally appears after the crash... it usually crashes without any message dialog.
Attachment #150205 - Attachment description: Clipboard file which when loaded, will cause a fatal error in Thunderbird. → Clipboard file which when loaded into clipboard, will cause a fatal error when pasted into Thunderbird.
(In reply to comment #1) > How about downloading a 0.7 nightly which has talkback and submitting a crash > report? I finally got Feedback Agent to ask for a report, after trying numerous nightly builds. Today, I installed the 0.7 release, and the UFA would still never appear. The best it did was run through the wizard to get setup (as always). I downloaded the latest nightly, ran through UFA setup again, crashed Thunderbird a few times. Then finally, when I launched Thunderbird once more, the Feedback Agent popped up and asked for details... YAY! Anyway, in UFA, I referenced bug 245798 in the "What were you doing?" field, so hopefully it'll get associated. Also, I tried crashing Thunderbird a few more times, and again, UFA briefly pops up when I re-launch Thunderbird, but it has never asked for details again ( I presume UFA realises it's the same problem? ).

Summary: Crash when pasting a graphic ( copied from Macromedia Director ) in compose mail window ( message text area ). → Crash when pasting a graphic (copied from Macromedia Director) in compose mail window (message text area) [@ msvcrt.dll ]
(In reply to comment #6) > TB103232 contains only signature. > Pete: Could you provide ID of another your TalkBack incident? Not sure where I'd find the ID of a Talkback incident... it doesn't seem to give any feedback about an incident number or anything. I'll attach the Talkback data that I was able to save from the crash today.
