The status bar is not changed when there are connection problems. Assume you
have two accounts. Account #1 works fine, but the server for account #2 hangs.
However, you do NOT see "Connecting to account2.server.com..." in the status
bar. Instead, the text "No new messages" for account #1 is in the status bar
until you can successfully connect to account #2.

same things happens when you start compacting folders. when it is finished then
message in status bar will not disappear. i use win2000sp3 but i believe this
doesn't metter

Cannot check my original bug report because I have no connection problems at the
moment. ;-) However, Michal's report is still valid for me.

in thunderbird 1.0.5 it is still like before (tested only issue in comment #1, i
don't have any connection problems now)
