Description

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040607 Firefox/0.8.0+
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040607 Firefox/0.8.0+

When downloading a file from tripod with "save link as" (FX) / "save target as"
(IE), IE manages to download the file correctly, but FX does not.

Example: http://www.ict-blue.be/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6357
When you download the file with IE, you get a 84K file (correct slide show), but
with FX you get only a 13K file, containing images and text:
"This file is hosted by Tripod, a Lycos®Network Site, and is not available for
download. Please check out Tripod's Help system for more information about
Remote Loading and our Remote Loading policy."
I know tripod doesn't allow remote loading of files, but it does work in IE.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. go to http://www.ict-blue.be/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6357
2. rightclick and save link as..
3. do the same with IE and see the difference

Actual Results:
I could not correctly download the file in FX.

Expected Results:
Download the file correctly.

Confirmed.

- Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040703
Firefox/0.9.0+
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Pro 5.00.2195 SP4
This bug was last touched before 1.0.4. Is it still reproducable?
Try the latest branch build (1.0.5): http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
Try the latest nightly trunk build (v1.0+): http://www.mozilla.org/developer
(Reviving old UNCONFs)

The bug is still reproducable with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1;
en-US; rv:1.7.9) Gecko/20050711 Firefox/1.0.5. I cannot try with 1.1a2 at this
moment.

The original forum post is gone, so here's a new test:

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. go to
http://www.google.be/search?hs=8e5&hl=nl&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=site%3Atripod.com+filetype%3Appt&btnG=Zoeken&meta=
2. right click on a working link and choose 'save link as...'
3. open the file in powerpoint
3. do the same with IE

Actual Results:
After downloading the file in Firefox and opening it using PowerPoint following
text appears: "This file is hosted by Tripod, a Lycos®Network Site, and is not
available for download. Please check out Tripod's Help system for more
information about Remote Loading and our Remote Loading policy."

Expected Results:
Download the file correctly.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b3) Gecko/20050714
Firefox/1.0+

I was able to successfully download a .ppt file using the instructions you
specified.

When you are able, try this with a recent 1.0+ build.

Ok, I tried with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4)
Gecko/20050724 Firefox/1.0+ and it works correctly.
It seems that only the 1.0.x builds are suffering from this bug.
Resolving WFM based on comment 5. The trunk builds are what will become the next
major release (ff 1.5)
